The Gratitude Factory in Varanasi
The heart of our production
Where it all began back in 2007. The holy city of Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world, rooted in ancient India and her secrets. What better place to bring a 3,000-year-old tradition back to life?
Our female-only Gratitude Factory was groundbreaking then and is still pretty unconventional for India today. We're all about empowering our craftswomen to be financially independent and self-sufficient, putting them in the driving seat of their own lives.
Every colleague in Varanasi receives:
Through our Shakti Rising programme and the generosity of people like you, we put our craftswomen's daughters into private school, all the way to age 18. That’s 26 girls and counting!
Why? Because we believe that real female-empowerment should be inter-generational.
The Shakti Factory in Delhi
The new kid on the block
As Shakti took off, we expanded to India’s capital - a thriving metropolis of 32 million. Here, family, flexibility and financial freedom is what counts.
In Delhi, we're all about family empowerment. We partner with small businesses who come together under the Shakti roof to create the products you love. And while it's not entirely female-only, we focus on employing as many women as possible from our partner families.
Every family member in Delhi gets:
The Kishor Factory in Agra
The powerhouse for Shakti's future
With Shakti going global, we needed a new factory to keep up with the demand (and give Varanasi and Delhi a work/life breather). After 2 years of research, we found a partner that truly matches our values: enter Kishor.
Founded by the fabulous Sneh Lata Agarwal and her husband, Kishor also champions female empowerment. Over 85% of their 2,000-strong workforce are women, all set up with bank accounts, credit cards and ongoing training.
Kishor's got great heart too, running programmes suporting acid attack victims, teaching textile skills to women and helping people with disabilities gain job skills. Oh, and did we mention the factory is SMETA, FAIRTRADE and SA-8000 certified? It's also 100% solar powered and harvests rainwater.
All employees in Agra receive:
All 3 Shakti factories adhere to our strict Code of Conduct. Curious?
